The DuPont plant was not immune to this type of tragedy, and explosions are known to have occurred at one location of another within the site complex in 1909, 1910, 1916, 1922, December 7 and 16, 1924, December 13, 1926, June 1930, September 6, 1935, July 9, 1936, September 7, 1938 (nitrator explosion killed two), and in December of 1947.
